The higher apsis is that which is nearest the sun or earth, and is synonimous (sic) with &lt;a href="/words/perihelion"&gt;perihelion&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="/words/perigee"&gt;perigee&lt;/a&gt;; the lower apsis is that which is farthest from the sun or earth; and corresponds to &lt;a href="/words/aphelion"&gt;aphelion&lt;/a&gt;, or &lt;a href="/words/apogee"&gt;apogee&lt;/a&gt;.
