      <description>This is the etymological spelling and was usual in BrE until the mid 20th century. The analogical spelling '&lt;a href="/words/connection"&gt;connection&lt;/a&gt;' arose in the early 18th century and was preferred by Webster. It is now very much a minority spelling.</description>
