Funny, the semi-acronym M-VEM-J-SUN-P always works for me. Oh, and VIB-GYOR for the rainbow spectrum. Weird brain, I guess.

Here's one I made up for figuring out whether the moon's waxing or waning: "If the light's on the Right, it's aRriving. If the Light's on the Left, it's Leaving". You've got to be able to rotate the moon in your imagination (or tilt your head) slightly if the illuminated portion seems to be mostly on the bottom of the moon's disc.

I always think of the TMBG cover of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)". My history teacher in 8th grade actually sang it to us, it was pretty funny.

When I was ten, I played Harlan in Life With Father at the local theatre. It's a minor (but lovable) character with a couple lines; that's one of them. Funny I still remember it to this day.
