If anyone could do it, we could. The United States: bully of the world. I think we'd have success everywhere but Venezuela, and eventually even Chavez would cave under our might. Bwahaha.

Okay, how about this: We make all the other countries in the Americas change their names, and....

No, never mind.

Sounds like something from Gulliver's Travels. That would make sense to the five of us who actually know where the word "America" comes from. ;-)

Ah, high school. . .it is fortunate that we mature, isn't it? These are the kinds of memories that tend to make us blush in retrospect.

Ahh, I confess I don't really care. I'm just a selfish American, anyway. :-)

I got in a mild dispute in high school with one of my friends who was from Honduras. He very passionately argued that he was an American, and I very coldly argued that he was not.

I did mean to say also I agree with you than American is a misleading description, although it seems to be deeply rooted now!

My recommendation for the new name by which citizens of the United States refer to themselves. Because American can be confusing, and should refer to anyone who lives in the Americas, which encompass much more than just the USA. Who's with me?
