It's easy to miss the common ones. Here's another I don't see on the list: autobiographer. I recently made a list of -id words, and it was a while for I remembered that such everyday words as liquid and stupid also belonged.

A couple more poets: elegist, idyllist, and the less-talented epigone; from the religious side of things: hymnographer, hagiographer; and from journalism: editorialist. Plus, you left out my profession: translator. Also close to all Wordies' hearts are lexicographers and etymologists.

Hey, thanks all! I never realized how long this list could get! I intended this to be a list of writers who actually create what they're writing (as opposed to, say, a transcriptionist), so most of these fit. Guess I'll have to leave doodler out, though, oroboros, even though I like it. Not that I don't have a zillion other lists it can go on. ;-)

obituary writer? I guess eulogies are always spoken, so eulogist probably doesn't fit. I think necrologist is the corresponding word for written materials.

Thanks, guys! Great words! Uselessness, I'm aiming for words that describe people who actually create the work rather than just copy, so maybe not transcriptionist. Secretary works, if you're not thinking of what's now called an administrative assistant, I guess. :-)

Palinodist - a writer of palinodes (recantatory verses).

Parodist and satirist - writers of parodies and satires respecitvely.

Psalmist. Songsmith, tunesmith.

Epistler - letter writer.

Gazetteer, reporter.
