Closing out this quiz, the remaining answers are Salammbo* for #7, and las Ramblas for #10.

*: or possibly Salammbô, the eponymous heroine of Flaubert's 1862 historical novel, set in Carthage during the tumultuous third century BCE.

las Ramblas is one of Barcelona's main thoroughfares.

Thanks to everyone who contributed answers. if I manage to work up another quiz, I will try to give more advance notice next time.

Is there a Spanish cognate of amble/ramble? Cause that's my guess for #10.

You can keep your Carthaginian beauty, sionnach, I'm done. I wouldn't mind another quiz, though, 'specially if I'm not late next time.

7, 8, and 10 are still open.

10 is actually pretty straightforward, if you've ever been in Barcelona.

7 and 8 are a little more obscure, but surely someone on Wordie has studied 19th century French literature?

#3 is a "raincoat model".

1 = mamba, 2 = gumbo, 5 = limbo, 6=namby-pamby, 9= bomb bus, 11= marimba, 12 = grampas are correct.

Still leaves 3,4,7,8,10.
