OK, uselessness here. Calling all Wordies! jennarenn and I have launched WordPlay! The rules for our first game, "Compendium," are a bit modified from our brainstorm here, so make sure you read up before taking the plunge. You'll also need to register as a player if you want to be included.

The first game starts Sunday, February 11, at 1:00pm sharp! Don't come too late or you might miss out!

I'm game. (Pun intended.)

It might be a "security risk" to give multiple people the password: i.e., anyone will be able to delete words others added, delete comments, or find other ways of cheating/sabotaging things. But I guess we'll just take the risk until group lists are implemented on the site. I haven't found a way to change the password for a user if it were to come to that, but I suppose I just need to look harder. Send the password to me at [EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED] and I'll set up the first game.

Hey, it's Jennarenn. I have an even better idea! I've create a new alias; wordplay. I can give the password to whomever wants to play. Each player has to long in once a day and add a word. They should then add a comment claiming the word. What do you guys think?

Well, I think that we’d have to allow for Internet searches, since we couldn’t prevent them. One person comes up with a category that’s bound to be limited. This person will judge for that round and cannot play. Each person has 24 hours to put together a list. I wish we could do a group list, but I don’t think wordie allows that yet. Eventually, that would be the ideal.

I like that, jennarenn. Very similar to a game some friends and I made up in college, called Wordball: Everybody sits in big circle. Whoever has the ball comes up with a category and quickly throws the ball to a random person. That person catches it, says a word/phrase that counts, and throws the ball to someone else. If you make a bad catch, drop the ball, or can't think of a word fast enough, you're out. The game continues until everyone but the winner has been eliminated. Fast-paced, and a lot of fun.

Not sure how well that would work on the internet, which would slow the game down considerably and remove the "put on-the-spot" factor. Google and Wikipedia also make it way too easy to cheat. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in trying it. We can iron out the wrinkles as they appear.

Who wants to play? If we can get a quorum, I'll create a list and host.

Oh, I would say that scrabble means that the word has to be legal in the game Scrabble. That does limit play, because I couldn't use Falling Water in the aforementioned architecture game. Although to be fair, the game does have to end sometime.

Like, I would say architecture, and edwardvielmetti would say house, Ecrivaine33 would say window, uselessness would say column, AbraxasZugzwang would say door, and we'd just keep going around until somebody broke?

Does firstflickr mean that we can use pictures?

When do we know that somebody gives up? How do we know who's playing?

So the rules you outlined, edwardvielmetti, are for the "Game of Wordie?" What, then, are "firstflickr," "firstwordie," and "scrabble?"

Second, how do we go about organizing a group game on the site? I want to play!

one person picks a list name, then you take turns naming things in that list until someone can't name anything. look up pronounciation and spelling for any word you don't know.
