A solicitor just came by the office to hype his wonderful new technology that has increased profits 100% across the business community. He told us all about what a marvel it was, how effective it was... but wouldn't tell us what it was. Just jargon and buzzwords, beating around the bush. We demanded he cut to the chase; he was taken aback; he stammered, "well, it's a sign... but it's not just any sign... it's an amazing sign."

Boss's response: "GET OUT OF MY OFFICE."

Probably not; whatever members the community may still have probably aren't running quite as fast these days. :-)

A thought just occurred to me. Is there a solitaire community? We should start one. We can have leagues and tournaments and stuff. Sorry, membership is now closed.

Well, it's probably somewhat larger than *that*. I mean, it's a certain type of plane the Navy used extensively in the past, so there must be a few pilots and mechanics left. But still, to label it a "community." Takes some balls. Whether they're to the wall or not, I don't know.

Well, yeah--I was using "oboist" as an example of the idiocy of making every possible noun into an adjective for "community." So I agree with not adding that specific example--I was just wondering if you intended to continue the list, though, with other examples actually seen in print or online, or heard via broadcast, etc. And it seems the answer is "yes," so I'll keep an eye out. Cool list!

That may be a little too obscure. ;-) But I think the media are the usual source for these phrases. I mean, no one actually says these in real life with a straight face, right? Let me know if you hear any other (relatively mainstream) ones. The list would be ridiculously long if I just turned every obscure hobby into a community: "the cup stacking community" ... "the air guitar community" ... "the mouth breathing community." Good grief! :-)

I wonder if you might consider adding words as you see/hear them in the media. Sometimes there are some real zingers out there, e.g. "classical oboist community." ?!
