Well, the editing in this case seemed to take a lot of the fun out of your comments...so I apologize. But they had to be preserved for wordieternity, you see.
Wow. I'm in excellent company, it seems....Sionnach, I hope your suggestions don't break Wordie. I had to do some serious editing before Wordie would accept them as "words." :-)
Anyone here know CPR? We need to revive mollusque!
Guilt experienced while engaging in "normal" social Thanksgiving activities that the time would be better served devoted to Wordie.
Followed by a grim sense of resignation that one will miss out on the juiciest post-holiday comments due to the obvious impossibility of catching up on six days of scintillating wordie badinage.
Then there's withdrawal symptoms caused by inability to keep up your 100 word a day average because the major grant proposal due next week precludes you from doing more than keeping up with comments. It's like... like...wordasphyxia...*turns blue, falls off chair*
Ah, yes. Word apnea. Lucky it didn't progress to wordsomnia, mollusque.
I'd say making word lists on the train instead of reading qualifies. Even worse, though, is making word lists at work instead of working. Guilty as charged. (But I did skip lunch to make up for it.)
I frequently suffer from rage at forgetting words to add due to being AFC (Away From Computer). I think that's what Wordie Mobile is supposed to help me with, if I could only remember that it exists!
Haha! I go away for a weekend and come back to a herd of fun comments! Gotta love it.
FWIW, John, I was having that trouble too--and also, in some cases, I was unable to edit comments at the top of lists. Haven't tried it again recently, though.
John (and co.): No, I don't mind when y'all call me c_b. If it's easier to type you can just say CB.
Re: the list I was trying to delete. I tried it once more and it took a while, but the deletion worked, it was gone next time I logged in. If I figure out another one I'd like to get rid of, I'll happily test it for you Monday between 8 and 4 eastern. :)
jennarenn and c_b, I think I just fixed this. Could we coordinate a time to test? In case it's list deletion that's causing the server to seize up, and I didn't fix it, I'd like to be around when you try it, so I can put things right if necessary. I'm traveling tomorrow, but maybe sometime monday? Please email me, if you wouldn't mind scheduling a quick test.
c_b (do you mind when we call you c_b, chained_bear?), you might have given me a clue in tracking down a bug that's been driving me *craaazzzzy*. every once in a while the wordie server loses its mind: the load average goes through the roof, and it becomes either really slow or doesn't respond at all. I know it's being caused by a rogue query--some database operation that uses way too much memory and/or never completes. i haven't been able to find it, but you just gave me some good places to look. so thanks, i hope :-)
Yeah, me too! Actually I've been trying to delete one in particular, but every time I do it, I get the "wait while Wordie thinks for a minute" sign, and then the whole thing freezes up. Even if it's open in another tab at the same time (I'm bad that way...), even that tab won't work. Am I breaking Wordie?!
p.s. skipv, there's always room for one more. ;) (retort, I mean)
And how about the sense of despair when you have a good retort for chained_bear and Wordie is temporarily unavailable--will return shortly and it returns, but not shortly?
Huh. Makes me wonder how many other words I've been misreading.
Don't think so, jenn. As far as I remember, it started out with this name.
Out of curiosity, has the list name changed over time? Didn't this used to be the seven stages of wordie addiction?
You know how it is. If you haven't been In Country, you just don't get it.
Thanks, man. *sniff* I feel a little better just talking about it -- um, to you, not my spouse...
Wow, dontcry. You have it bad. Welcome. :-D
Feeling guiltier about not commenting on wordie than not commenting on what your spouse just said to you.
I call 'lists' facebook groups.
You have my sympathies, Prolagus--from a fellow sufferer. :-)
I think I have a chronic refresher syndrome.
Welcome, muamor. As you can see, you're in excellent company. :-)
'Wordholism´ is a severe disease.
I humbly bow in front of this list. :o)
Hello, my name is Lea and I'm a wordholic.
Well, the editing in this case seemed to take a lot of the fun out of your comments...so I apologize. But they had to be preserved for wordieternity, you see.
Oh, noooo ... if I would of realized my prose was to be immortalized here, I could of tried to be less prolix. Bollix!
FWIW, the erstwhile problem of not being able to edit one's most recent comment seems to be fixed. Thanks, John! Wot a klassy site is wordie.

Mounting experiments solely to provoke WeirdNet - see peeler for context.

All known words or all possible words? (At least I've passed the word apnea stage. I woke up six times one night the first week.)
Is one of the stages making word lists on the train instead of reading?
We can't possibly--what are you saying, arby? We can't possibly list all words??
*slumping off in existential despair*
How about acceptance that you can't possibly list all words, or do we never reach that stage??
I frequently suffer from rage at forgetting words to add due to being AFC (Away From Computer). I think that's what Wordie Mobile is supposed to help me with, if I could only remember that it exists!
Ah, irony.

c_b, the same thing happened to me. I ended up leaving the list.

That's another good issue jennaren - having a great list idea that just doesn't work out in the end. I have a number of clunker lists I should delete.
palooka, you are spot on. I responded to my dry period by deleting lists.
And by then you have forgotten your retort...
And how about the sense of despair when you have a good retort for chained_bear and Wordie is temporarily unavailable--will return shortly and it returns, but not shortly?
Don't forget anger that you can't possibly list them all. Usually preceded by denial that you can't possibly list them all.
Ha! Yes, palooka, and that's when you catch up on comments! :)
There's also "Holy shit, I just ran out of list ideas!" That stage is similar to an artist's dry period.
What about the vergerhade dreams?
Mortification you'll never catch up (on comments). :oD
