Plenty of scope for someone to do a list of military/police ranks and titles. I have a few of the common ones, must be lots more.
"I'm just bower-birding in classic Wordie fashion!"
Bilby, that is a magnificent description of what Wordies do! (And I like this list, too.)
Keep it coming, Sire!
I believe your eminence is the proper way to greet a cardinal of the Catholic church. Cool list, bilby!
Are you opposed to Mister (or Madame) President? Ambassador?
edit: just saw sionnach's first comment--sorry, I was responding to bilby's (surely tongue-in-cheek...?) comment about there being "somebody" eminent enough, blah blah...
The Lama has been granted an audience, thanks for sending him around. I had a look at the Japanese situation a while back. I don't pretend this to be an internationally inclusive list, I'm just bower-birding in classic Wordie fashion! I put some of the Chinese ones in there because the social relationships they relate to are intriguing. -san is in because I had an endearing Japanese flatmate for a while and it was part of our everyday conversations.
How about his holiness the Dalai Lama?
If you're going to include Japanese honorifics like -san, have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_titles.
Hmmm, sounds familiar. Still, there must be someone eminent enough to be Your Eminence so I'll leave that in.
If you meet a bishop, I believe the correct honorific is "your grace".
Thanks. I'm glad your eminence doesn't apply to rap singers.
perhaps: "your excellency", "your eminence" (applies to cardinals)
