Thanks, yarb! And thanks, chained_bear, for pointing me to the other spelling. I love the idea of a Mythic America list. Please do start one!
Thank you rolig. May Sacajawea serve you well. Also noted: catkisses finds a home for babs.
How bizarre. I was thinking about Sacajawea just this morning and musing about starting a Mythic America list. I'll adopt her when I start one--also I would add the currently-more-preferred spelling (I have no authority to say this whatsoever) Sacagawea.
Yarb, I have a good home for Sacajawea on my bywords list. I've already put her there, on a preliminary basis, of course. I think she'll fit right in as a byword for someone who acts as a trustworthy guide.
Actually, yarb, they're getting bored with each other. Got any more livestock?
Very good, bilby.
Also noted: dontcry has adopted a cow and mare cognitum. Whichbe has taken canned under his(?) wing.
I hope your cow and your mare are bringing you pleasure, dontcry.
Thanks also to whichbe for nuzzling up to nuzzler and finding a use for gömböc.
I think I can provide a home for turkish coffee on my Exotic Tastes list. Yes indeed. Turkish coffee coming right up!
Thank you - or should I say thank moo!
Roll on weekend...
That's just wrong, yarb. I'll take a cow. It can keep my mare cognitum company.
Okay - someone is orphaning words solely for my benefit, right? Your keys? A cow?!
Who wants to adopt a cow?
Recent adoptions:
alizarin crimson - frindley
pokerface - foxtrot
Nancy - gangerh / chained_bear
ambipresent - reesetee
dentures - treeseed
carnal knowledge - prolagus
Gosh. Things seem to have been ticking over nicely here in my absence. No need to ask my permission from now on; just adopt away to your hearts' content.
I've abandoned multikulti, you may want to find it a home. This feels like craigslist.
For more ghosts (that need no approval for adoption) check the tag:'list-less'.
sionnach, I promised no looking in the mouth, so bishoping is out. As for feaguing.."Eeeuuuwww!"
Deal. No leading, only driving to drink - but absolutely no drinking and then driving.
55 bottles of beer on the wall looks like a uselessness prank. And a damn good one at that!
If nobody else cares about that slightly pretentious poseur, pseudoinverse, I'd be happy to offer lodging and three squares on my 'statistical terms' list. He'd be much happier billeted with his clone, the generalized inverse, and his cousin, the Moore-Penrose inverse, and would be very useful for many of the statistical frolicking that goes on there.
Silly gangerh. People (and horses) are driven, not led, to drink. As is well-known, they can be led to water, but not to drink.
And of course no leading it to drinking, dontcry.
Well, assuming we get buyin from the Trojans. Also, I assume there will be no attempts to bishop or feague the beast in question.
Man, you're strict. Well, I can promise that her mouth will be looked into once a year by an equine vet who will need to float her teeth, of course. Other than that, her mouth only will need to be inspected for suspicious gifts, which I'm assuming will never occur, given her obviously fine bloodline. Do we have a deal?
dontcry: If granted custody of mare cognitum, can you promise you will not look her in the mouth?
I'd like to apply for mare cognitum please. I have 3.25 acres of well-maintained pasture. I am cognizant - the vast majority of the time. I love horses (I really only beat the dead ones in word-play, honest - I can't even yell at my mare). And, finally, my old girl could use a companion.
Gicleé is a typo for giclée. I thought it could have been mine but apparently not, as I've not listed the other (until now). I wonder if prep school was mine for some reason. Who knows.
Baby daddy deserves no home. It sucks.
Baby daddy has no mummy? Shame.
Chained_bear just brought baby daddy to our attention. Is there a place for him here?
Mistreatments adopted by arcadia. Congratulations madam, I hope he brings you joy.
rt: I wouldn't want to send my urchins to homes where the promised love and cherishment fails to transpire. Besides, we can always use hand in the workhouse, manufacturing blacking.
aracdia: I can't give any guarantees on the provenance or legitimacy of any of these words. If you like the look of cynyc enough to take a punt on her, you go ahead. But it's not up to me to vouch for her "reality".
asativum / colleen: yes, those two are especially fine specimens aren't they? Quality office girls are hard to find these days, and for them to come with carnal knowledge is an added bonus.
mollusque: I've been tagging as misspelling, too. magnanimities of sound and road cat are simply beautiful, thank you!
OK, OK, I kidnapped mistreatments while nobody was looking. I just didn't want to deal with the paperwork. But it has a home, now. I thank you.
Well, I have reservations about mistreatments but I am almost CERTAIN that carnal knowledge is a trouble maker.
yarb-- will you make with the definition of "cynyc" so that, if it's good, I can snag it before anyone else does?
Yarb, I've also been random word trawling for ghosts. I've adopted some and tagged others as misspellings. There are some unruly blighters that I can forward to your agency if you'd like (e.g., magnanimities of sound and road cat).
maybe this place would be less of a tip if I had some quality office girls.
Interesting that no one claims carnal knowledge. Or office girls, for that matter.
I would TOTALLY take cynyc if I had a place to put 'er. Is it an alternative spelling for "cynic"? If it IS a "real" word, it belongs in a palindrome list, which I'm sure somebody must already have.
And what's this about returning orphans? Why, you're almost as heartless as uselessness there!
Word-loins? Word-loins?? By all that is holy, yarb, please!
*yelling from corner*
Arcadia: mistreatments is a handful, it's true. He's a tempestuous little tyke at the best of times. But I think he means well. If he gives you too much gyp, I'll let you bring him back, no strings. How's that?
uselessness: just by random word trawling.
Flavenoids adopted by Julia. Thanks Julia!
Out of curiosity, yarb, where do you find the words for this list?
Congrats, Julia. Now the pressure's is on the rest of us to step up and do the right thing by these poor remaining waifs.
I'm eyeballing mistreatments for my "hospital" list, but he looks like a troublemaker who might negatively effect the rest of my words if I take him home. Can he be trusted?
i'm so happy!! *sniff*
She's yours, julia. Congratulations on becoming the first to adopt a word. And a fine choice if I may say so.
flavenoids really must come home with me. i mean, i've already got the crib set up on my -oids list and everything...
Well, it wasn't that funny. ;-)
Badoom-tish. It's comedy central here, isn't it? I'm like a laughing hyena who's just taken a big suck of laughing gas while being tickled with a ten-foot feather.
On occasion, but don't tell my wife I call her that! *rimshot*
(Actually I'm not married, but the joke was too good not to say, amirite?)
You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?
I'm the villain who murdered those words' poor parents in cold blood and left them, orphans, in the street to die. Don't expect any mercy from me. I make orphans for pleasure, and ghosts for fun. Thoroughly despicable, I am. ;-)
Forgive me if I'm wrong uselessness, but judging from the comments it seems to have been you who brought all these bottles into the world of wordie. Rather than lambasting my adoption agency for not providing them all with bespoke care, why not take responsiblity for your own overactive word-loins and give them a nice list of their own?
rt, go and stand in the corner until you repent that dreadful pun.
Oh, those pour, pour bottles. ;->
Yes, that's bizarrely specific choice from a large field of orphans... can't you hear all the others crying, with tears in their puppy-dog eyes, "Pwease adopt us, yarb! We need a mommy and a daddy and a dinner that isn't gruel or cardboard!!"
Hate to tell you this, yarb, but if you add all of the orphan bottles, you'll have to expand your facilities quite a bit. Ask uselessness. ;-)
Why 55 bottles? I think that 54 is feeling a little left out.
Never mind work hours: apparently the question of our slender population was raised about '11 hours ago', and where I am it's 11:34am.
Sadly, some of us don't have access to wordie during work hours. I find that it severely curtails my ability to get into the thick of things. TSB, do check out slumry's comments. She racked up over 1200 comments in under three months. Amazing.
This whole page confuses the hell out of me. And yet I'm laughing out loud.
Signed, Not Resetee
P.S. What does "vhooosh!" mean?
Yeah, I think there are a few other Wordies around here who comment frequently. Just a few.
I know debbie and warren. I think I saw them on the bathroom walls at Red Lobster once. One of them loves the other, but I can't remember which.
I think that cumuls refers to a type of clod.
Who's resetee?
Signed,
The littliest wordie.
Debbie and Warren are no longer here. They have been...dealt with...
And I've been functionally gone for like two weeks! Nice to know my reputation wasn't tarnished during my absence... ;-)
Actually, pomegranate, debbie and warren are conjoined twins.
Superiorbeing: there are more wordies than meet the eye.
Who're debbie and warren? Must they be adopted together because they are sibs? What if I just want warren?
So few of us Wordies. I don't mind there so few of us. It's not so easy to get lost in the sauce. Excuse me for being a cynyc.
I am sad, because there are so little of us Wordies. Mollusque, Yarb, Uselessness, Resetee and myself are the ever-reappearing names and the only ones! At some sites you post a comment and - vhooosh!- it's 8742 comments down the list. But here, You have to wait about 5 minutes for your comment to move down once(!), unless there's a new guy who comments way too much (like me).
And so i bid thee farewell - The Superior Being.
I've also adopted a few former ghosts.
Then I shall have to become more stealthy. A lexisharpshooter, if you will, making my mark in only the silentest of manners.
If by taking these poor words under my wing I remove them from your remorseless crosshairs, so much the better.
This list makes me sad. Do you mean to end my ghosting rampage?
Clever, yarb! At last, these little words have a home. :-)
