I'm going away now. *shields face*
The following word shall totally upstage my suggestion of "placenta" on this list.
Behold: Placentophagy: The eating of the placenta.
*googles*
*comes back 30 seconds later*
Oh. My. Gosh. Placenta PIZZA? I think I've heard quite enough.
And uselessness: kidneys are great!
uselessness--- Sorry to keep recommending deviating from this site but you have GOT to google "placenta recipes". I want your reaction. It's hilarious how all these sites pop up being completely serious, and it's gonna be especially shocking to you since you just found out about the practice (of eating it) 3 minutes ago.
I don't know anyone who's eaten placenta, but it's definitely been trendy among a certain set of people, since the 60's presumably. I think the theory is that because animals do it (since animals aren't choosy where they get their vitamins), it's in some way "natural".
I think it's slightly loopy, but who knows? It could be yummy stuff.
Gross! I've never heard of post-birth placenta use in any capacity, burial or otherwise. But eating it? Do those people know the function of the placenta? It's like eating, um, kidneys and a bladder, or something.
Anyone familiar with the tradition of gathering family and friends to eat the placenta (in a stew) as a weirdo celebration of the birth of a baby, (that one's for you, yarb)? Personally, I don't have the stomach for eating it, (I don't even have the guts to try my own breast milk) so we had decided to bury the placenta, HOWEVER, now I'm thinking I might wanna put it in my hair. ...Naw, I'll just bury it.
Good point, sionnach. But don't you agree that marsupial would make a charming middle name?
Placenta Marsupial Yarbsdottir.
"I think Placenta would make a lovely name for a girl."
If, however, she was a bouncing baby girl, Placenta would seem a little inapposite, because of the subliminal macropodine (and thus non-placental) connotations of the word 'bouncing'. You'd have to call her Katy.
Or possibly Sheila.
I'll have to try it.
well, i think it's rabbit..comes in a bottle you can buy at your local hair supply store i think. fulla' nutrients and the like. or so she says... ;)
"my roommate puts rabbit placenta in her hair.."
WHAT?!
n.b. I think Placenta would make a lovely name for a girl.
oh. well, that's cool, it's good fertilizer, right? my roommate puts rabbit placenta in her hair. but it kinda grosses me out when she does that. lil'bit.
Well, if you don't like placentas, then I won't invite you over, as we have one of them in our freezer till we get a tree to plant over it this spring.
aw, thanks! placenta is actually one of the few p-words that i dislike... but definitely the others!
Very cool. How about: Pegasus, placenta, pretentious, and precocious?
