I live in upstate New York, half a mile from Lake Ontario. This makes me a "
New Yorker", a phrase which I find somewhat unfortunate. "New Yorker" is an ugly phrase, hardly worthy of being the
demonym for twenty million people.
Now, I care little for New York City. If they want to keep calling themselves "New Yorkers", I won't stand in their way. But the rest of us deserve something better, something exciting, something to
foment a little state pride. Michigan has its
Michiganders; why can't we have something similar?
