"Bookends" is the nickname I have for my oldest and youngest boys when they are doing something with each other, but apart from their mutual middle brother: "The Bookends are playing nicely" or, "Hey, babe, I'm going to the store with Middleman, you keep an eye on the Bookends". Etc...
Also I have noticed a certain correlation of appropriateness between the bookends words and the book content. Spooky, even, in some instances. I would say that your offerings reflect this. What do you think?
Thank you fbharjo, Prolagus, and frindley for your contributions here. I like all of them. I do hope you'll understand if I keep them stored in the comments as I'm compiling this list as a personal journey through my library scattered throughout the house. I've started in my studio which is full of more practical books I've read and stored.
I'm finding this exercise a great reminder of all the stuff I've absorbed over the years. I'm looking forward to getting downstairs into the bedrooms, lounge, cellars and up to the boxes in the loft. I'm expecting some great word duos from the shelves of cookery books in the kitchen!
Some of the combinations I'm finding are mundane but there are (in my opinion) some pearls that would probably never have occurred without this project.
I'm particularly fond of broughton witherslack, arithmetic fishes and having skirtings so far.
If you like the idea and create your own bookends list, as one other Wordie has already done, I think it could be huge fun detecting identical combinations from different books.
Sad, but true.
