Here's the thing. According to Fitzgerald, "dishonesty is a woman is something you never blame deeply". From this we can infer that most women are dishonest, which for married women means unfaithful. So, when a woman is pregnant, and she says "I'm pregnant", it isn't clear to the man that it is his child. So, to avoid any unpleasant questions, many women will say "we're pregnant". Of course, particularly passive-aggressive women will say "I'm pregnant", trying to gauge their husbands feeling on their infidelity.
