My college in New England was run by Town Meeting. We had a board of selectpersons. I'm used to hearing it, so when I came across the word selectman, which is more commonly used in actual towns that are run by town meeting, I thought it was really weird. I still do. Just got used to selectperson, I guess.

I have seen most of these words in general usage for a long time. A very good thing!
I've never heard it spoken, either, but it shows up in the dictionary and yields plenty of hits on Google...
