The Feminist Outcry

[ feed | comment feed | cloud | sort:  alpha / order added ]
A hypothetical band of female activists has expressed outrage over the Testosterone City franchise, prompting a list of their own. A hearty collection of androgynous alternatives to the male-dominated job titles of the patriarchy. Girl power!! Also props to long, awkward, sarcastic sentences about political correctness and gender-neutrality!!

My college in New England was run by Town Meeting. We had a board of selectpersons. I'm used to hearing it, so when I came across the word selectman, which is more commonly used in actual towns that are run by town meeting, I thought it was really weird. I still do. Just got used to selectperson, I guess.

I have seen most of these words in general usage for a long time. A very good thing!

I've never heard it spoken, either, but it shows up in the dictionary and yields plenty of hits on Google...

LOL, nice. :-) The only thing worse than political correctness today, is political correctness historical revisionism. Good grief.

When I was just a wee coaster, our church got a new, PC hymnal that had replaced He and Him with Spirit, Creator and the like (with little regard to meter or integrity). We called it the Itnal...

Around here, the tongue-in-cheek term for a gender-neutral restaurant worker is waitron. :-)
