Good. I was really afraid that would fall out of fashion.
I reckon they do.
Hey bilby... I was in Australia a million years ago. Do people there still say "whatever you reckon" all the time?
There's a friend of mine from Yugoslavia who, though he arrived in Australia 30 years ago, never learned the language very well. One of his favourite expressions is "shove it up your arse" but the way he says it has it sounding like "shovel him up the arts". Ouch.
It works with Australian pronounciation. Try applying a nosepeg, then twisting your mouth sideways so the odd word can escape but flies can't get in.
Ha! took me a minute. That's cute! Arts end...
A comedian once described the southern city of Melbourne - a city with a few airs and graces about its cultural life, but not as pretty as grand rival Sydney noted for its harbour and iconic architecture - as "the arts end of Australia". I can't remember who said it, although it's the kind of thing that Sir Les Patterson might have said. Now the phrase is being recycled for other locales.
