  • A fondness for women's black undergarments.

--Willard Espy, 1975, An Almanac of Words at Play

(This definition raises several questions, but that's what Espy said.)

  • It's unclear just why they need to be women's undergarments.

  • Like I said, the definition raises questions. Time to broaden it?

Since my previous comment I've tracked the word to its sexist pre-Espy source.

"A fondness for women's black undergarments. The term applies both to the woman who likes to wear such garments and to the man who likes to observe them. Derived from melas (black), >i>kryptos (hidden), vestimenta (garments), philia (a liking)."

    --J. E. Schmidt, 1967, Cyclopedic Lexicon of Sex, p. 340

    November 15, 2008

  • This word sounds a bit weird in that vestimenta is Latin while the rest is ancient Greek.

    November 16, 2008

  • Perhaps mollusque meant to write "...its sexiest pre-Espy source."
