  • I do not remember when I first heard this word, but it was at least 10 years ago, because I was aware of it before my first nephew was born (at the time of his birth I already had a number of nieces). I have been using the word this whole time, and really wonder why it hasn't caught on. It is a gender-neutral term for "niece or nephew," and very helpful for example when remarking "ooh, these would make great holiday gifts for my nieflings!"
