A term used to categorise cheap and nasty Australian films made (largely) during the 1970's 1980's. One of the stimuli for schlock on film was a tax concession scheme promoted by the federal government. This meant that a film only had to return 10% of its budget through the box office and video sales to be profitable for the investors. As a result the quality of any given film was of little interest to investors; what they cared about most was seeing it completed and claiming their tax concession.
Referenced in the Simpson's when they traveled to Australia.
