A genus of hummingbird (Threnetes) containing the Pale-Tailed Barbthroat, Sooty Barbthroat, and Band-tailed Barbthroat. Taxonomy being what it is, there's ongoing disagreement over whether the Sooty Barbthroat is actually a variant of the Pale-Tailed and whether the Bronze-tailed Barbthroat is a subspecies of the Sooty.
In any event, all are in the so-called hermit subfamily of tropical and subtropical hummingbirds. They occur from southern Mexico through Central America to South America, as far south as northern Argentina.
