"Similar" as in having the same basic definition? Because I haven't found anything linking the two. "Ocellus" is a diminutive of the Latin for eye, "oculus."

I thought that too. But apparently the words are not related. Ocelot comes from (prepare yourself) tlālōcélōtl, which was apparently an arbitrary shortening of the Nahuatl (Aztec) word made from tlāl(li) (earth, land) + ōcélōtl (jaguar). Ocellated comes from Latin ocellātus, which means "having little eyes."
There's a thought. :-)
Maybe Latin is descended from Nahuatl.
Signed, No Problem. :-)

I bet ocelot comes from a similar root though. Signed, Too Lazy to Look.
