It just sort of pop(pin)ed out the other day. I was silent on the matter because I couldn't remember where I'd seen it or how recent it was; my mind is disorderly enough to often not recall things that should be familiar. The pizza reference might be right as there are certainly multinational pizza chains with their tentacles in Australia, hence crunchy and I have probably seen the same advertisement.

Manny Toppings instead of Mary Poppins! I love that kind of pun! Though it also makes me a little sad to see such wonderful creativity wasted on selling dreck to the masses. I just saw the ad on You Tube (here), and it's a little creepy. Granted, MP was a sugar-pusher, but in the most delightful way; there's something about that Many Toppings, on the other hand, that says if you don't order double toppings I'm going to track you down and beat the stuffing out of you.

Oh but there is a connection: His name is Manny Toppings!
Y'know, cause the ad is about lots of toppings on your pizza... um, yeah, sounds stupid when you write it out, but I still love this word.

Rolig, I thought it was bilby's creation also. And though I can see how someone familiar with an annoying advertisement would dislike (yea, even strongly) this word, I still think it's teh alsome. (P.S. That's so we don't mess up the traditional, more awe-inspiring meaning of awesome.)

Crunchy posted his/her most recent comment while I was writing mine. Living in Central Europe, I did not realize that this word was not one of bilby's coinages but, it seems, has been made relatively famous by an advertisement. That of course diminishes its glory. I could take it off my list, since it's clearly getting enough attention, but I think I'll keep it there. I still like it.

Though a huge fan of Mary Poppins since the age of 6, when I was utterly entranced by her "quite atrocious"-sounding word, I have always regretted what has happened to the word awesome, which I felt (and feel) should be reserved for that which is truly awe-inspiring. Awe-lovers lost the battle over "awful" long before I was born, but here was my chance to stand up for its close cousin. That said, I think bilby's wordlovechild, though hardly storm-at-sea, view-from-Mont Blanc, birth-of-a-child "awesome", is quite bilby-brilliant and fully deserving of a place on my "coinages that deserve attention" list.

Bilby, good sir, I would like to broadcast, in a quiet and polite fashion, my mild dislike of the word "supercalifreakinawesome". No fast-food rivalry is involved; the fault stems from the complete lack of connection between pizza, Mary Poppins, and that fool on the advert who says it. It's like that completely bizarre creature on the back of some Smiths multipacks saying "Mmmm, chippies!". What possesses people to come up with this stuff?!

PS. You should have bracketed diss-doctor! ;)

Geez crunchy, haven't you read any of the comments around the traps lately? If you don't like a word can you please take the courtesy to say so quietly and politely, perhaps with even a rational explanation of why you hold a contrary position. Otherwise you come across as a scowling diss-doctor only out to cause trouble. It is not cool to tee off at someone else's pet neologisms.
Having said that, I don't take these kind of things personally.

NO!!! I hereby decry this word. Supercalifreakinawesome is NOT supercalifreakinawesome.

Phusc! I got here as soon as I could and I'm only the silver medallist! See slouch hat for my manifestly inadequate tribute to palooka.
