I agree, gerwitz--it is so much easier to use the on-line sources. My OED is the two volume set with magnifying glass; it is a major productionfor me to use it. I would love to be able to use the on-line OED but there is no way I could justify the expense for my current purposes.
True, seanahan--thanks for mentioning that. That's how I access it, come to think of it.
Most college networks have a subscription to the OED, so if you have access to a college network, you can read the definitions for free.
So inconvenient. ;->
Maybe I could gut most of the rooms in my house and install bookshelves and reading nooks--oh wait, my SO would have an opinion, too. Rats!

You are so right, R. I am trying to figure out where to put all my books as it is--but dictionaries, and especially OED, are sacred, aren't they? :)
However, if you can manage to build an extra room on your house to hold all the volumes, you could order the full (non-microscopic) OED. ;-)

The OED *is* online--but you have to have a subscription to make full use of the site. :-)
Zounds! I can't believe I neglected the OED when searching for whyever. I've become far too dependant on the readily-accessible and online.
Actually, whyever is in the OED. And whyever shouldn't it be?
What about whenever, however, and whatsoever? I sense a list coming on. Actually, I don't know that I've ever seen wherever as one word.
I don't care that no dictionary appears to include whyever. If wherever, whoever, and whatever are legitimate, then I'm using whyever.
