Except for numbat and quoll, I have to say they're just not as nifty as the other names on the list. Out of respect, though, and since I can't find a better reason for excluding them than that they aren't as "nifty," they're added. Thanks for the suggestions!
And anyway--it isn't placental, since there are a few birds, reptiles, a fish or two, and yes, a marsupial on this list already. Some of my best friends are non-placental. No, really.
Placental hegemony takes its insidious toll once again. :-) Obviously, there's an element of subjectivity in judging whether or not an animal's name is "nifty", but how about the numbat, the quoll, the Tasmanian devil, the thylacine (or Tasmanian wolf)?
