La comunidad autónoma de Madrid ha declarado hoy, el 11 de marzo, un dia de festivos generales en reconocimiento del hecho de que REESETEE, un ciudadano honorario, ha alcanzado 20.000 palabras añadidas a Wordie.
Love your list of common names for birds! Just today I was watching chippies under my bird feeder and in my crape myrtle trees in cloudy Florida, and thought of your list.
Hey reesetee! I finally got around to creating an account on Flickr. If you're interested in some views of where I do most of my birding, check out my Flickr also-on link.
Hi, to screen my Grandiloquent Dictionary list for misspellings I wrote a script that searches each word's page for "misspell". When running the word through OED I had to decide whether or not I wanted to count these alternative spellings as misspelling. I decided in favor of that approach for in the OED page of these words, they are indicated thus: "query_type=misspelling". So I don't necessarily see misspelling and variant spelling as contradictory. What do you think?
Reesetee, assuming your renovation is nearing completion, I wondered if you had ever considered making a list of extinct prehistoric birds...? If so, have I got a deal for you.
Sorry. Apparently, I replied to myself. Not unusual, however, as almost absolutely nobody listens to me -- except my birds. And, myself, of course. But still, my Cooper's Hawk is crying...she just won't stop and I think I'm the only one listening to her. I'll go out and investigate again.
I know! Thank you! She lost two babies already this year (well, one, she thinks she lost two, but we called our local rescue place to come and get one of them...long story)...
rt -- I have a Cooper's Hawk situation on my property... I know this isn't the forum...can you help? I think Mamma Hawk is going a little nutty (things have happened).... I want to cry...
Gosh, bilb, I'm honored! And a reef egret to boot--how can anyone be luckier? (Even gangerh doesn't get that kind of prize.) :-D I shall treat Bangau with all the respect and honor due a bird of his/her importance and stature. But I think I'll need to fly it back to Indonesia before I'm arrested. *runs off to pack*
Reesetee! The old stager, despite not being one of the subject Wordies, crashed the party with a mighty SECOND PRIZE in Identify the Wordie #2! Way to go, limpkin! Well, I've travelled all the way to Indonesia in search of a suitable prize and brought you back bangau, a reef egret. Can you believe that? Wow! Congratulations!
Reesetee, you are aware of John's godlike work in instituting a "most commented-on" section and that other link under "comments" that I keep using but can't remember the name of from one page to the next... right?
Time elapsed between (1) me referencing an old Dr. Demento song over at untonsured and (2) reesetee catching my reference and posting the lyrics: 2 minutes.
reesetee, I don't understand the concept of tags. Can you please shed some light? How do they function? What is their purpose? I am obtuse...now there's a word. Thank you.
OH MY GOD! reesetee! I just processed your explanation about citations! I didn't really comprehend what you meant about the little icon buttons under the words. I have been having the best time amusing myself with citations over the last few days...only to have the unsettling understanding dawn upon my vacant wilderness of a brain this minute that my efforts have most probably been a ludicrous and obnoxious thing to do...not to mention entirely redundant.
I feel like I walked out of the ladies' room with my skirt tucked up in my pantihose! Oh, well...
Hi reesetee,
I am unsure of what is actually meant by a "citation"...sometimes I see words on here that have no definition or notes and of course many of them I can easily find in a dictionary...so is that what a citation is...a definition from a reliable source? What is the proper way to make a citation?
Thank you, from newbie Treeseed.
Hi dude. I was all excited on my walk today because I thought I had some birdie names you might have missed ... until I got back and saw you already have redstart, chiffchaff, etc. Hang on, there was also a coal tit and I know you love tits. Don't we all?! A few new ones on my Under The Kilt list after I spent a few hours picking the brains of the hostel manager. Be good :-)
Thanks, all! Do I have to retire and/or go to Disney? I wouldn't mind the former, but I'd prefer not to do the latter. As for crashing the server, I assume John will let me know if it ever comes to that! *fingers crossed*
My goodness reesetee, 10K! It's a little like layin' in firewood innit? Eventually you'll have more than you can ever burn and Beelzebub will be tappin' your stash for the fires of hell!!! ;oD
Hey, thanks, c_b! I don't know why I didn't see your comment until now. :-)
Had never heard of this bird, but when I went searching for info, I found out that it's apparently a localized term for white-winged scoter. Still, it's worth adding, don't you think?
Astute? Three out of eight? Naaaah. But thanks for the...er...trophy, uselessness! I'll display it, all right. ;->
over 2 years ago uselessness said:Congratulations!
You have emerged victorious from Identify the Wordie. You are an astute observer of people on the internet! I mean that in a good way! Make sure to come back for the next game so you can retain your title, champion.
This comment is your trophy. Display it with love for all the world to see.
Thank you, thank you! I figured it was best to start off that way, instead of wait until later. I've only been here a few times, but this site is going to become my new obsession. -grin-
Okay, Facebook's kinda tricky to link to here, because it doesn't use regular usernames. You need to go to your profile page and look at the URL. At the end of it you'll see "id=12345678" ...just copy that ID number and paste it here on your Wordie profile for the link to work right.
And hurry up already, I want to add you as my friend! ;-)
Thanks again. I did delete the repetition, but I kind of enjoyed it while it lasted. I liked what you said about the fact everyone uses this site in a unique way--I have gone from "Huh?" to seeing lots of possibilities in 24 hours--and all because Librarything has been down!
Can't be all that enormous if *I* didn't notice it.... ;-)
I really enjoy the fact that everyone uses this site differently. Me, I collect words like pebbles. I see one on the ground and I have to pick it up, look at it, and then stuff it in my pocket with a zillion other words. I'll dump 'em all out when I get home and probably save most of them. Other Wordies thread a few really wonderful words onto a necklace as though they were jewels--not a lot, but dazzling to see. Some pick up the curiosities, beautiful, ugly, or otherwise, and place them on display for others to marvel. Then there are those Wordies who have studios where they invent their own creations. And on and on.
Reesetee has an enormous e- ...uh, nevermind. As much as I love hanging around this site and commenting and stuff, I really don't add new words too often. A lot of the time, I'll add a new word just to leave a definition or comment on it, then remove it from my list because I don't have a need for it. Weird.
Whaaaa?? I wasn't even paying attention! Holy Word Monster, Batman! Geez, I hope John has lots and lots of storage room....
Actually, now that you mention it, I've been trying to sort through some of my (unbelievably) long lists and break them down into shorter ones--hence the Foodie list. As always, a work in progress.
I played with your name.
Well, I don't know where I've been all this time. I didn't even know about the 10Ks!
The 10K's have been tagged (so far), so I figured the 20K's should be too. C_b almost snuck hers by, but I happened to be watching.
*toe tracing in sand*
Aw, shucks....It's good to be back. :-)
*takes a big bite of fuflun*
Sound the trumpets, good Wordies -- our reeseteeless days are over!
Yay! Reesetee's back!! *dances around with confetti and fufluns*
Ciao! Keep track of interesting words!
*hopes against hope that reesetee will buy her a shirt from Skinny Dick's*
*rethinks the wisdom of that*
Off I go again--this time for a couple weeks. All you regulars had better hold down the Wordie fort until I return! :-D
Ciao....
Aw, thanks! It was harder than I thought to go cold turkey. And me with a vacation coming up. :-)
Welcome back, Rt! You were missed!
Reese who? (Welcome back!)
Good grief! Wordie comments tell me I've been away from the site for 11 days. Can it be true?
No wonder my life has gone downhill.... ;-)
EDIT: Seven days. That's slightly reassuring.
Do you mean in a Scottish accent?
Glad to hear it (about the earthquake). And glad you liked DC--I thought you would! It's one of my favorite cities.
None of my relatives and friends lives in the earthquake area, but it was nonetheless a shock. Thanks for asking.
DC is a gem. All those cherry tree blossoms! And the Tidal Basin! And Julia's empanadas!
Believe it or not, "swim."
Congratulations reesetee! What was the lucky word?
¡Muchas gracias, amigo! I think I've just exhausted all my Spanish--but thank Madrid para mí! :-)
Oroboros, I've seen that before and it cracks me up every time. Birds and ice cream: they go together like...uh...birds and ice cream.
¡¡¡¡ FELICITACIONES !!!!
Oh, roboros! It's filed under seagullibility.
Hey! Just noticed you hit the big two-oh-kay. Congratulations!...but you're making me feel waaaay underwordied! :-)
Oh, and here's something you'll get a kick out of (I hope):
X@#!% Birds.
Oh, never mind that image I tried to post. I made it to 20,000. :-D
Go with the oversized green velvet jacket, fluffy bow tie and top hat.
We're playing Las Vegas next week, haven't you heard? ;-)
A cure?? HAhahahaha! Who needs a cure?
Oh.
Well, I understand there is a cure for that condition, but you'll probably end up with the DT's from Wordiewithdrawal.
I am, apparently, teetering on the brink of having 20k words. =:-O
viola d'amore for your ZingStrings list. See true anecdote under binman.
Thanks, hernesheir--glad to hear you're enjoying it, and that you're enjoying the birds themselves!
Love your list of common names for birds! Just today I was watching chippies under my bird feeder and in my crape myrtle trees in cloudy Florida, and thought of your list.
Wow. I hadn't looked at my word count in ages! Maybe I should have a party for all the Wordies I've yoinked from. :-)
Holy carp diem, reesetee, you're going to hit 20,000 words if you're not careful! Watch your head!
Oh yeah? You ferruginous pygmy owl.
You bufflehead ;-)
Thank heaven someone is.
Big bird is watching you.
Hey reesetee! I finally got around to creating an account on Flickr. If you're interested in some views of where I do most of my birding, check out my Flickr also-on link.
Great to hear someone is enjoying my lists. :-)
Good luck listing.

Always collecting knots. Thanks, c_b. :-)
I think there might be some knots for you on Matthew Walker and double-crowned wall-knot, if you still want any.
Haha! Yes, I think I mentioned that on bilby's Porn Birds list. Cracks me up. :-)
Reesetee, I think someone made this for you.
Yes, but you can't see our gestures while typing.
Glad to hear it. Enjoy!
thank you for your suggestions reesetee :-) i'm already having great fun in the wordiesphere :-))
Actually, I have thought of that--well, extinct, but not necessarily prehistoric. What exactly did you have in mind, as if I didn't know? ;->
Reesetee, assuming your renovation is nearing completion, I wondered if you had ever considered making a list of extinct prehistoric birds...? If so, have I got a deal for you.
Okay, okay. I'll try to keep it down.
See the cellophane citation at octopus.
It's loud. Best to cover your ears.
What is the sound of 14433 words being rearranged?
To all: Please excuse my dust as I reorganize and knock down a few walls. Those empty lists will be filled soon enough. :-)
See what WordNet has come up with for brent.
I'm going outside to see what I can find. She's putting herself in danger...
rt -- I have a Cooper's Hawk situation on my property... I know this isn't the forum...can you help? I think Mamma Hawk is going a little nutty (things have happened).... I want to cry...
Gosh, bilb, I'm honored! And a reef egret to boot--how can anyone be luckier? thank you! it's all.. all warm and fuzzy here. but i think that's the words talking.
Reesetee, you are aware of John's godlike work in instituting a "most commented-on" section and that other link under "comments" that I keep using but can't remember the name of from one page to the next... right?
Indeed, skip--John's god work is never done, apparently. :-)
Tolland: Don't look at me. I may have a huge desk, but it is penisbone-free.
There must be a better way to say that.
Penis bones?! Where have I been? D;
But check out the cool news features that John has god worked for us.
Good grief--away one week and 3,000 comments to read when I return. Could you guys type a little more slowly?? ;-)
Thank you reesetee (for the congrats here and there on Wordie). There is always a reason to make a tiramisù, I think.
Good grief, galoot--you have penis bones on your desk too? It's an epidemic!
"Swell." *snort!*
If nothing else, those bones on my desk make swell paperweights.
Thanks, O! I'll check it out. :-)
Hey reesetee: you might be interested to take a look at taxonomy of wordplay.
Time elapsed between (1) me referencing an old Dr. Demento song over at untonsured and (2) reesetee catching my reference and posting the lyrics: 2 minutes.
This fills me with joy. :-)
They have long lunch breaks in India c_b which is why reesetee has ample time to spend on Wordie.
He's generally not around on Saturdays though, so that must be when he washes his Water Buffalo.
*wondering how reesetee managed to make Wordie a full-time job* Lucky duck... ;)
Day job, night job, and weekend job, thank you very much. I just so happen to have some time on my hands right now.
*wondering if reesetee has a day job*
Right! I forgot about that. Should work now; thanks. :-)
You have to type your facebook ID number, as you can read it in your "profile page" URL.
What? The nerve of it! Try again, Prolagus. Don't know quite how to get it working if it doesn't redirect from the name....
Reesetee, your facebook link doesn't work :-)
Thanks for the, um, accidental short story. (I wondered whether something like bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F19585?thread=534826 might work on Wordie, but I'm not sure it would fit the structure of the place.)
Yes, yes. I am definitely one of those. Many words sound beautiful to me, just like a song, so it makes sense that they would get stuck in my head.
Define "us" (in your comments to me). If you mean a Wordie, I definitely, definitely am. I am thrilled to have StumbledUpon this site.
Glad you figured them out, Treeseed--and hope you're enjoying them. :-)
Hello again my dear reesetee...I have figured out tags... I think.
reesetee, I don't understand the concept of tags. Can you please shed some light? How do they function? What is their purpose? I am obtuse...now there's a word. Thank you.
Thanks! I already caught that. :-)
Reesetee, see hangi. You might want to list it someplace.
OH MY GOD!
Oh, well...
Thank you, reesetee for explaining "citation". I love this place!
Zoiks! Thanks for pointing that out, mollusque. I haven't been paying attention to my wordometer lately. :-)
Hey reesetee, your wordometer's about to reach 11111.
Be good :-)
Not at all, SoG. I have a mini-zoo of finches. It's better than watching TV. :-)
I see you mention your birds, reestee. What birds do you have, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks, cakemix! I switched it from squarehead, another favorite. :-)
i love your favourite word!
Hi reesatee, thanks for having the courage to notify me that I was raping the use of the site with my tags. The horrors are now undone.
Thanks, all! Do I have to retire and/or go to Disney? I wouldn't mind the former, but I'd prefer not to do the latter. As for crashing the server, I assume John will let me know if it ever comes to that! *fingers crossed*
Yay! Quite a benchmark, reesetee! Surprised you haven't crashed the server yet.
Congratulations on reaching 10,000 words, reesetee. Are you going to retire now?
My goodness reesetee, 10K! It's a little like layin' in firewood innit? Eventually you'll have more than you can ever burn and Beelzebub will be tappin' your stash for the fires of hell!!!
;oD
Reesetee: congratulations on reaching 10,000 woids!! What will you do now? Visit Disneyland? You deserve it.
What's so yucky?
HAHA! There it is, on my profile! Now any time I want that earworm in my head, especially around...say...November 1, I'll know just where to find it!
I can't thank you enough, c_b. Really. But wait 'til next year.
Hey Reesetee.... You know what today is, don't you? All Saints' Day!
(*singing*) FOR ALL THE SAINTS, WHO FROM THEIR LABOURS RESSSSST...
Hey, thanks, c_b! I don't know why I didn't see your comment until now. :-)
Had never heard of this bird, but when I went searching for info, I found out that it's apparently a localized term for white-winged scoter. Still, it's worth adding, don't you think?
Found another bird wird! Don't know if you have it already, or on which list:
brass wing(ed) diver, a.k.a. Eastern white-winged scoter (Newfoundland English), Melanitta deglandi deglandi. Ca. 1785.
Astute? Three out of eight? Naaaah. But thanks for the...er...trophy, uselessness! I'll display it, all right. ;->

No need to apologize--completely understood. :-)
Just wanted to apologize in case my comments on rhythm belcher came out the wrong way. You weren't the one I was worried about. :)
Okay, Facebook's kinda tricky to link to here, because it doesn't use regular usernames. You need to go to your profile page and look at the URL. At the end of it you'll see "id=12345678" ...just copy that ID number and paste it here on your Wordie profile for the link to work right.
And hurry up already, I want to add you as my friend! ;-)
Thanks, Ecrivaine. I'm not very active on those two sites...yet. :-) Most of my free time is swallowed up by Wordie!
Oh, okay--and BookMooch.
I also added you and sent an invite on LibraryThing. Have a good one. I'm Ecrivaine32 on that site.
I'm on Blinklist as Ecrivaine32
Looks like you just got started on Blinklist. Feel free to scoop from my over 21,000 links (currently). And thanks for the comment on Wordie.
Thanks for you comment ! :o)
Thanks, kalvin--I like how you categorize your lists. Interesting! :-)
thanks reesetee! you have quite an impressive collection here :)
Aw, shucks, palooka. You flatter me. :-) Also, you scare me--I think one of me is quite enough, thanks!
Reesetee is an outstanding word-collector, a good guy & an extraordinary and intelligent asset to Wordie! We need more reesetees!
You are prescient--I am addicted. Uh-oh!
Trust me--you'll become addicted before too long! :-)
Thanks again. I did delete the repetition, but I kind of enjoyed it while it lasted. I liked what you said about the fact everyone uses this site in a unique way--I have gone from "Huh?" to seeing lots of possibilities in 24 hours--and all because Librarything has been down!
Thanks for the welcome. I am starting to see the possibilities here.

Hey reesetee,
Check out WordPlay's profile. It's a game that uselessness and I have created for wordies. Round one starts at 1pm EST today.
